FILM CREW EPISODE 07

10 Limited Series you can binge in one weekend

What’s up, Film Crew!

Thank you for making last week’s post the most shared, most opened, and most read so far! We even got a share and shoutout from In The Black Network!

As of this writing, there is no reporting on whether the economic blackout from last week was successful or not–it’s actually almost too quiet. Too many people participated for it not to have done some damage. For those who did participate, I salute you.

Let’s keep this going…

THE “ONE WEEKEND BINGE” QUEUE

One of the most powerful pieces of storytelling I’ve ever watched—and the first time a series actually made me cry. When They See Us tells the true story of the Central Park Five—five young men of color who were falsely convicted and imprisoned. Ava DuVernay didn’t just direct this—she cooked.

As a sucker for anything Samurai-related, I was all in on this limited series (based on a novel). It was so good that it was only meant to have one season—but thanks to overwhelming fan support, the studio had no choice but to greenlight a second and third.

So… I know absolutely nothing about this limited series—except that I lost my partner to an entire Saturday of binging it. A wellness guru fakes a cancer diagnosis, and from what I hear, the fallout is brutal.

Another limited series based on a book—yes, please! This crime drama follows a young American journalist navigating Japan as its first-ever non-Japanese reporter. I binged season one in just two days… it’s that good.

This was the most critically acclaimed and fully realized limited series of 2020—yet somehow, most people you mention it to still haven’t watched it. It’s a dark comedy that tackles SA, but if you can get past that, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most stunning audio-visual experiences that TV has to offer.

Yo… the level of pettiness in this show is off the charts. A simple case of road rage spirals into total chaos, bringing out the absolute worst in two struggling entrepreneurs from opposite ends of the wealth spectrum.

One of my favorite watches on Netflix right now! One son’s a Taiwanese assassin who flies to Cali to protect his mom… the other’s a clueless mama’s boy who won’t tie his sneakers without elbow pads. What could go wrong? Absolutely everything.

Saying this is “from the mind of Donald Glover” should be enough to land it on our watchlist. Centered on a die-hard fan of an R&B singer who will go hard for her favorite artist at all costs, this one scores a solid 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Colman Domingo stars in this limited series about a guy who stumbles upon a murder in the Poconos, while trying to reconnect with his estranged family. Now he has to find a way to prove he is not the killer.

This has been one of the most endearing Comedy Series that I have seen since the first season of “Master of None (Aziz Ansari).” Mo takes us on an emotional ride as he navigates the absurdities of the American Immigration system.

Proceeds from all sales made this winter (January 13 - March 20) will be sent to an organization aiding victims affected by the recent devastating fires in Los Angeles.
